Ovodonation
We know that every path to parenthood is different. We understand that considering egg donation can be an important and sometimes emotionally complex step. We are here to accompany you with sensitivity, professionalism and the most advanced techniques.
Ovodonation, or IVF with donor eggs, is a highly effective assisted reproduction treatment that has allowed thousands of women who cannot achieve the dream of becoming a mother with their own eggs to fulfill their dream of becoming a mother. It offers an excellent opportunity to achieve a healthy pregnancy.

What is Ovodonation?
Ovodonation is an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in which the eggs of a young, healthy and anonymous donor are used. These eggs are fertilized in our laboratory in Donostia with the sperm of the recipient’s partner or with donor sperm, as appropriate.
The resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus of the recipient woman, who has been previously prepared to receive them. It is the recipient woman who will gestate the baby and will be the legal and biological (in terms of gestation and epigenetics) mother of the child.
For whom is Ovodonation indicated?
We recommend considering Ovodonation in several situations:
A personalized evaluation by our team in Donostia-San Sebastian is essential to determine if IVF-ICSI is the most appropriate option for you.
Our Egg Donation Program: Safety and Confidence
Donor selection is one of the pillars of our donor program. We rigorously follow the Spanish legislation, which guarantees:
-
Anonymity: The donation is completely anonymous. Neither the recipient will know the donor, nor the donor will know the recipient or the child born.
-
Altruism: Donation is a voluntary and altruistic act, although donors receive financial compensation for the inconvenience and time spent, set by the Ministry of Health.
-
Rigorous Selection: All of our donors in the program pass an exhaustive selection process that includes:
- Age: Young women (generally between 18 and 30 years old) to ensure maximum oocyte quality.
- Complete Medical Evaluation: Detailed personal and family medical history.
- Comprehensive Gynecological Review: Ultrasound and assessment of ovarian reserve.
- Genetic studies: Karyotype (to rule out chromosomal abnormalities) and screening of the most common recessive diseases in our population (such as Cystic Fibrosis, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, etc.).
- Analysis of Infectious Diseases: HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, etc.
- Psychological evaluation: To confirm the suitability and maturity of the donor.
-
Personalized Assignment (Matching): The medical team assigns the donor looking for the best phenotypic match (physical characteristics such as blood type, race, hair and eye color, complexion) with the recipient woman.
The Ovodonation Process for the Recipient
The treatment for you, as the recipient, is simpler and less invasive than conventional IVF:
- Initial consultation and planning: Evaluation of your case, detailed explanation of the process and cycle planning at our clinic in Donostia.
- Donor assignment and synchronization: Once the compatible donor is assigned, the cycle is coordinated or planned with vitrified eggs from our bank.
- Endometrial preparation: You will take hormonal medication (usually estrogen and progesterone in the form of patches, vaginal or oral tablets) to prepare your endometrium (the inner layer of the uterus) to be receptive to the embryo. We perform ultrasound checks in the clinic to monitor the endometrial thickness.
- Laboratory fertilization: On the day of the donor puncture (or devitrification of donated eggs), the eggs are fertilized with the couple’s sperm (previously delivered and processed) by IVF or ICSI.
- Embryo culture and selection: Embryos are cultured in our laboratory for several days.
- Embryo transfer: The best quality embryo or embryos are selected and transferred to your uterus. It is a quick, simple and painless procedure that is performed in the office.
- Pregnancy test: About 10-14 days later, a blood pregnancy test (beta-hCG) is performed.
